FCST: 4/10/11 IA, IL, MN, WI, MO

10 Apr

I’m going to be brief with this one.  Deepening low will move into N/E WI this afternoon/evening on the nose of a 90-100 kt mid-level jet.  This will spawn severe storms that may contain significant, long-track tornadoes.  Given the choice, I’d set up in Eau Claire, WI.  I expect initiation to happen in a line between the Twin Cities and Waterloo, IA.  Storms will be moving to the northeast at 55+ mph.  It would be less of a chase, and more of a position and wait for storms to pass.

Later in the evening storms will develop further down the line through IA, IL, and MO.  This storms will go linear relatively quickly, but a few isolated cells early could produce some tornadoes.  There will certainly be hail & damaging winds.  I’m going to monitor things over the next few hours, and might head toward Peoria, IL to see if I can catch on before dark, then try to get a few lightning pictures before heading home.  I’m not that thrilled with storm motions, however.
